- M.A. in sinology in 1988
- Dr.rer.nat. (the German version of a Ph.D. in the natural sciences) in history of science in 1991
- 1992‒2000 various jobs as researcher and lecturer, mainly at the Institute for the History of Science, LMU Munich
- since 2006 librarian (microforms, subject cataloging) at the Bavarian State Library in Munich
